OpenAI to launch GPT Mentions: Here’s its functionality
2 min readThe feature is presently in beta and has not been widely released
OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, appears to have quietly introduced a new feature this time. The AI giant, led by Sam Altman, has implemented the new GPT Mentions feature for ChatGPT. This feature enables users to incorporate custom GPTs or bots into a conversation by tagging them, similar to how it’s done in Slack.
During OpenAI’s inaugural developer conference, the creators unveiled a feature called Custom GPTs, enabling users to develop their own bots and monetize them on the newly launched GPT Store. This store serves as a platform where users can discover helpful custom GPT versions created by different users.
“This will significantly enhance the utility of custom GPTs in everyday applications. With reduced friction, usage is expected to rise, furthering OpenAI’s app store goals. It’s a great time to begin developing custom GPTs,” stated Dan Shipper, CEO of Every, an AI startup. Shipper was among the first to anticipate that OpenAI was developing this feature.
Since this advancement, numerous users have created custom GPTs, setting the stage for a feature enabling interactions between users. This functionality permits users to mention other custom GPTs using “@” in their prompts. Currently in beta, this feature has not been released to users yet. Allegedly, it will only be accessible to ChatGPT Plus accounts.
Once released, users will be able to view this feature in the ChatGPT chat interface. Users can employ multiple GPTs in each interaction with the chatbot. This new feature extends the functionalities of ChatGPT far beyond basic chat capabilities. It has the potential to assist in tasks such as workflow automation and managing complex everyday tasks with the aid of AI.
GPT-4 will enable custom GPTs and plugins to function within the same prompt, enhancing ChatGPT’s ability to provide top-notch features for assisting users with their tasks. This capability will be exclusive to ChatGPT, positioning it ahead of numerous other chatbots like Google Bard and Anthropic Claude 2.
