During an interview with ET Telecom, TM Roh, Samsung’s Southeast Asia CEO, affirmed that the company is actively working on enhancing Galaxy AI features, expected to launch for users in 2025 or later. He also assured that Galaxy AI features introduced with the Galaxy S24 series will remain free until at least 2025.
Currently, there is no information available regarding the other Galaxy AI features that the company is developing. TM Roh also mentioned that some upcoming AI features on Galaxy devices will be more robust and designed for users willing to pay for premium experiences. This approach is similar to what OpenAI and Microsoft are doing, offering basic AI features for free while requiring a subscription for power users to access the full capabilities of ChatGPT and Copilot, respectively.
Samsung’s Galaxy AI capabilities are presently restricted to the Galaxy S24 series of smartphones, which are equipped with either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or the Exynos 2400 SoC. Nevertheless, the company has assured that these features will extend to over 100 million Galaxy devices, suggesting their imminent availability on previous-generation flagships like the Galaxy S23 series and the Galaxy foldable models. While certain AI features on the Galaxy S24 series are powered by Google globally, Samsung has collaborated with Beidu to provide these features in China.
Galaxy AI currently encompasses four key features: Circle to Search, Live Call Translation, Transcription Note Assist, and Photo Assist. Additionally, the company provides technologies such as a generative AI-powered wallpaper generator and an advanced photo editor that enables users to replace or resize subjects in a picture, with these features functioning even on photos taken with other devices.
Samsung has also revealed plans to increase its manufacturing efforts in India, with the upcoming assembly of Galaxy laptops in the country. While the brand has been producing products like smartphones and monitors for some time, this expansion signifies a deeper commitment to manufacturing in India.
