Report: Apple Vision Pro to surpass Quest 2 and PlayStation VR in sales
2 min readIn the future, Apple’s Vision Pro headset could lead the VR/AR market
Apple has recently launched the much-anticipated Apple Vision Pro, marking the tech giant’s entry into spatial computing and virtual reality. Initial forecasts suggest Apple will sell 350,000 units in the first year, a remarkable figure for a new product category.
Analysts anticipate a 321% surge in sales to around 1.475 million headsets in the second year. By the fifth year post-launch, projections indicate Apple will ship an impressive 12.613 million Vision Pro headsets, reflecting a substantial 3,504% growth from 2024.
These sales forecasts indicate that the Vision Pro is poised to surpass competitors Meta and Sony in the virtual reality market. In the first five years after its launch, Meta’s Oculus Quest 2 headset sold 10.4 million units globally, while Sony’s PlayStation VR product sold only 6.6 million headsets in the same period.
In contrast to Meta’s $300 Quest 2 and Sony’s $399 PlayStation VR, Apple’s Vision Pro comes with a significant price tag of $3,500. Nevertheless, Apple’s unquestioned reputation for premium quality and user-friendly products is anticipated to boost sales despite the high initial cost.
According to Lee Astley of Techopedia, “Apple is arguably the most popular tech company globally for smartphones, tablets, and computers. It’s not unexpected to see them entering the VR headset market. The projected numbers are truly impressive and perhaps expected. The likelihood of them shipping more units in the first five years after launch than Meta and Sony demonstrates the high level of consumer trust in their products.”
Due to its robust brand loyalty and emphasis on elegant design, Apple appears ready to make a significant impact in the VR/AR market with Vision Pro. If initial forecasts hold true, Apple’s headset could quickly become the top seller in the industry within a few years of its release.
