2 min readAs part of its sixth anniversary in India, the company has also unveiled some exciting deals on Alexa devices
As Amazon celebrates its sixth anniversary in India, the company has shared insightful data on the usage of its Alexa-powered devices in the country. According to Amazon, devices such as Alexa smart speakers and Fire TV Stick have been purchased by customers across 99% of India’s postal codes, spanning from metropolitan areas to rural villages. This increased customer adoption has resulted in a 200% surge in the usage of smart home devices connected to Alexa over the past three years.
The growth in connected devices has also led to a corresponding 100% increase in requests to Alexa for controlling compatible appliances, including smart lights, plugs, fans, TVs, security cameras, air conditioners, water heaters, and air purifiers.
According to the company, some of the most popular requests that users can easily make in English, Hindi, or Hinglish include commands like “Alexa, turn on the geyser,” “Alexa, turn off the AC after 15 minutes,” or “Alexa, dim the lights in the hall.”
The most significant growth is observed in fans and air conditioners
In India, requesting Alexa to manage lights continues to be one of the most prevalent smart home demands. However, the fastest-growing categories are smart fans and air conditioners, which experienced a 37% increase in usage over the past year—the highest growth among all smart home devices.
Significantly, Amazon reports a 12% increase over the past year in the variety of choices of Alexa-compatible smart home appliances available in the market. Brands such as Xiaomi, OnePlus, Hindware, and Atomberg are launching new devices.
Significant updates
Amazon has also provided an overview of some of its most notable recent feature launches. The redesigned Alexa app simplifies access to and control of smart devices with just one or two taps. Features such as Favorites, home shortcuts, streamlined activity feeds, and improved search enhance the app’s user-friendliness.
Meanwhile, bulbs enabled with Alexa Connect Kit, such as the new Wipro RGBW lamp, offer hassle-free setup without requiring a separate hub or bridge. These bulbs link to your Alexa account and connect automatically when first powered on.

Finally, in honor of Alexa’s 6th anniversary in India, Amazon has revealed discounts of up to 50% on Echo devices, Fire TV, and Alexa smart home bundles. Notable offers include a 49% discount on an Echo Dot bundle with a Wipro smart bulb for Rs 3,899, a 59% discount on Echo Pop twins packs with a Wipro bulb for Rs 4,898, and a 40% discount on the popular Fire TV Stick for Rs 2,999.
